Ophthalmic Surgery

At Attadale Veterinary Hospital, we understand how important your pet’s vision and eye health are to their quality of life. Whether your pet is experiencing discomfort, discharge, or noticeable changes to their eyes, our experienced team is here to help. We offer a range of ophthalmic surgical procedures to treat both common and complex eye conditions, helping your pet see, feel, and live better.

What Is Ophthalmic Surgery?

Ophthalmic (eye) surgery involves any surgical procedure performed on or around the eyes. These surgeries may be necessary to relieve pain, treat injuries or infections, remove growths, or correct anatomical abnormalities that interfere with vision or comfort.

Common Eye Conditions That May Require Surgery:

  • Entropion – where the eyelids roll inward, causing irritation or ulcers

  • Ectropion – drooping eyelids that can expose the eye to infection or injury

  • Cherry eye – a prolapsed gland of the third eyelid, common in some dog breeds

  • Corneal ulcers or injuries – severe or non-healing wounds on the surface of the eye

  • Eyelid growths or masses – which may cause discomfort or damage to the eye

  • Traumatic injuries – such as punctures or lacerations requiring repair

  • Enucleation – removal of a severely damaged or painful eye when necessary

What to Expect

When your pet is scheduled for an ophthalmic procedure, we provide:

  • A thorough eye examination, including diagnostic testing as needed

  • Discussion of surgical options, risks, and expected outcomes

  • Careful anaesthetic monitoring throughout surgery

  • Precision surgical technique to support the best possible result

  • Comprehensive post-operative care, including pain relief, antibiotics, and follow-up checks

  • Supportive at-home care guidance, including how to manage medications and protective collars

We know how concerning eye problems can be, and our goal is always to preserve comfort, protect vision where possible, and ensure your pet’s wellbeing.

Early Detection Makes a Difference

If you notice your pet squinting, pawing at their eye, showing signs of pain, or if the eye looks red, cloudy, or swollen, it’s important to have it checked promptly. Eye issues can progress quickly and may lead to permanent damage if left untreated.

At Attadale Veterinary Hospital, our team is equipped with the knowledge and care your pet needs for eye-related conditions—from diagnosis through to surgery and recovery.
